One Day Retreat for Priests · Rome, Italy

8 June 2010

Report

“The Gift of Priesthood”

The Saint John Lateran Basilica in Rome, provided a magnificent environment for the special one day priest’s retreat which ICCRS co-hosted with the Catholic Fraternity. Around 500 people gathered together for praise and worship which was animated by Rinnovamento nello Spirito Santo Italy.

This was followed by a powerful exhortation delivered by Bishop Joe Grech from Australia. He began by reflecting upon three aspects from the life of St. Francis — his preaching, his prayer and his poverty. Then, using many Biblical examples and personal testimonies, Bishop Joe went on to highlight the role and mission of the priest in today’s world.

Bishop Mauro Piacenza, the Secretary of the Congregation of the Clergy shared a meditation before leading into a time of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Lunch proved to be a beautiful time of fraternal fellowship as the priests and participants adjourned to a nearby marquee and shared together informally over a catered lunch.

In the afternoon we were encouraged by Fr. Tom Forrest who shared his own personal experience of living the joyous call to the priesthood for over 50 years. The priests were then led in a very deep time of ministry by Fr. Kevin Scallon and Sr. Briege McKenna. Sr. Briege shared a very stirring prophetic word for all the priests.

We hope to print the text of this in a future newsletter.

The day drew to a close with a beautiful Eucharistic celebration presided over by Cardinal Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. It was a great joy to gather together with Charismatic priests from all over the world as they began their retreat time in Rome with the Holy Father.

Prophecy

Prophecy given by Sr. Briege McKenna:

My brothers, today I call you with a new call to Holiness. The Lord says: “I will give you many graces in these days. I invite you to come into silence at My presence. Come to Me, alone; prepare yourselves because the time is coming. As My first disciples, you will be called to leave down your life for My people.

A time of glory is coming for My Church and then there will be a time of suffering, but I will be with you. Do not be afraid! Remember what I promised you: I will bring a new spring into My Church but I need to cleanse My Church, My sanctuary and make it holy. I must enter the houses of My people and make them holy. I urge you: be away from the world! The world is not a friend. Whoever belongs to the world does not belong to me. They will come to you as false idols; they will try to ensnare you pretending they want your health.

I invite you today, Eucharistic priests: come to Me in the Eucharist, stay with Me, worship Me, do not be afraid to stay in My Eucharistic presence. My people, I want you to say that you need Me. You will see wonders as never before. I will prepare you for this suffering. Maybe it is not a blood suffering but it will be suffering in your hearts when people continue to do or say things against Me. I gave you My Spirit. I put around you people who love Me and will support Me. You are My priests. You are also My sons. You need My Ministry. Don’t hesitate to seek Me, to search for those who are holy, prophets, in My Church. I have many holy people who work for your sanctification. Do not disappoint them. Go, ask for their advice. As when I was on the earth I searched for who loved Me to help Me, so you should search for the support of those who love you.

Rejoice because a new great time for the Church is coming and you are those who will lead it. You will bring freedom and you will face the darkness around you. Be united. Come to Me in the Eucharist and you also will spread My power and My love. Seek My Mother, She will surround you with Her protective mantle. Consecrate your lives to Her, may She walk with you. Trust in me. I am your Lord. You are My priesthood and I will protect it. Let Me guide you! Come to Me!”

You are most welcome to share this lunch with your brothers’ priests. A book stand will be made available with texts in various languages in order to deepen our faith and knowledge of the work that the Holy Spirit can do in us, along with a stand for the Cross of the Renewal.
