The work of ICCRS recognised by the Holy See

November 2, 1993. On Tuesday, 20 September 1993, following the Assisi Retreat and its annual meeting, the ICCRO Council (now ICCRS) met with officials of the Pontifical Council for the Laity in the offices of Cardinal Pironio, President of that Council. The purpose of the gathering was to receive the decree recognizing the work of ICCRS by the Holy See.

November 1, 1993. The President of ICCRS, Charles Whitehead, greeted the Holy Father in the courtyard of the Pontifical Palace in Castel Gandolfo.

Netherlands Bishops on the Charismatic Renewal

1993. The Bishops of the Netherlands have issued a pastoral statement on the Roman Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Netherlands in late 1988. After many years of existence of the Renewal in the Netherlands the bishops write: “We feel time has come for us as Bishops of the Netherlands to express our opinion about it.

Dear brothers and sisters, With great joy we announce the resumption of the Cross of the Renewal production and distribution.

European Meetings

September 1993. About 150 leaders from 16 countries representing European National Service Committees met during September in West Berlin. Previously they had net twice, the last time being in Rome during 1983. They agreed at this year’s meeting to meet annually in order to get to know one another, share ideas.

Francophone Africa Leaders' Conference

1 January 1986. About 200 leaders from 9 countries gathered in Kinshasa, Zaire, October 4-9 1985, to reflect on the theme: “The Renewal, a chance for the African Church”.

Preparation for Synod of Bishops in 1987

1 September 1985. 12O Delegates from 65 associations and movements met in Rocca di Papa.

ICCRS has moved to a new address

(1 March 1985) After enjoying the extraordinary and truly Christian hospitality of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary for four full years at 19 Via Ferruccio, ICCRO has moved to spacious and centrally located new premises in a Vatican building, the Palazzo della Cancelleria.

The Charismatic Renewal and the fruit of Holiness

(1 January 1985) A new document approved by the United State Bishops’ Conference “commends the Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the fruit of holiness and good works born in the lives of those who become involved in this movement”.

Papal Award

(1 July 1984) Rev. David DuPlessis (“Mr. Pentecost”) received last November the Benemerenti Medal for “meritorious service” to Christianity. The gold medal and certificate were presented in the Vatican by Cardinal Willebrands of the Secretariat for Christian Unity, to manifest the appreciation of the Holy See for the Pentecostal leader’s ministry of “forgiveness and unity” among all Christians.
