For
years to come the memory of Pope John Paul II will remain fresh
in the minds and hearts of many. This small booklet compiled by
the Director of ICCRS, Oreste Pesare, will help to enrich those
memories for the millions of people worldwide who readily identify
themselves as members of CCR. Beginning with the Preamble of the
revised Statutes of ICCRS which were approved by the Vatican on
30 May 2005, this publication looks at some extracts taken from
addresses given by Pope John Paul II during the later years of
his Pontificate, and will leave no doubt in the mind of the reader
exactly what the Pope thought about CCR. Focusing briefly on Holiness,
Prayer, Communion, Formation and Proclamation, this booklet reflects
on statements which the Holy Father made, and the reader will
find it a valuable companion to “Then Peter
stood up…”, compiled by the same writer and published
by ICCRS in February 2000. Pope John Paul II often reflected on
the two equal dimensions of the Catholic Church, the Institutional
and the Charismatic. This short compendium touches briefly on
his response to the action of the Holy Spirit in the Church today.

They
are the "Acts" emanated from the International
Colloquium on Prayer for Healing and the Charimatic Renewal
in the Catholic Church. The meeting, held in Rome in 2001, was
convened by the Pontifical Council for the Laity together with
ICCRS. The assembly of 87 invited partecipants from the worldwide
Catholic Charismatic Renewal together with 12 Vatican representatives
was presided over by the President on the Pontifical Council,
Card. James Francis Stafford. The meeting was initiated to discuss
the healing guidelines which were set out in the Instruction
on Prayer for Healing. During the three days of this gathering,
some theologians presented papers which dealt with the scriptural
and patristic, historical and liturgical, canonical and ecumenical
aspects of the healing ministry in the Catholic Church. Round
table discussions reflected on the topics of exorcism and deliverance,
and on the spiritual, physical, and psychological dimensions associated
with healing. This book will be of great assistance to those who
seek to continue their function within the healing ministry of
Jesus, recalling the promise which he gave to his disciples: "...they
will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover..." (Mk
16:18).

The
year 2000 is the opportune time for the publication of this book.
It collects what the Church has said and written, in the person
of the Holy Father, about the Catholic Charismatic Renewal over
the last thirty years. From the first words by Paul VI to the
last heard in Fiuggi (Rome), by Pope John Paul II, this book is
a really precious document. The book includes a good selection
of photographs to illustrate the meetings between the Popes and
the leaders of the CCR to make them more vivid. A particular note
should be made about the Appendix. Besides the Decree of approval,
by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, of the ICCRS, together
with the Statutes, a long and in depth statistical study of the
Charismatic Renewal as a whole has been included.

The ICCRS Newsletter, for many years, has offered excellent
articles by leaders in the Charismatic Renewal. Charismatic
Renewal: a Grace, a Challenge and a Mission is a selection
of articles that articulates the vision and mission of the Charismatic
Renewal.
The
book is divided in four sections. The first one, Charismatic
Renewal: a Grace, focuses on the heart of the CCR and how
this "grace" leads to personal renewal, communal renewal
and Church renewal; the second section, a Challenge, is
a challenge to the CCR to be fully Catholic and fully charismatic,
to have a clear vision and to be prophetic and courageous. The
third section, a Mission, presents articles that stir up
zeal, it focuses on the evangelistic mission of the CCR and addresses
particular aspects of our mission. In the concluding section, Moving on with the Lord and one another, there are articles
which help us to move towards the future with humility, trusting
the faithfulness of God.

encouragement to the charismatic renewal in the Catholic Church.
The editor, Fr. Killan McDonnell, osb, was a consultor to the
Vatican Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity and the founder of
the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research. His introductory
essay documents the presence of the charismatic gifts in the early
church's rites of initiation.

Spirit-Filled Yet Hungry is a book for Christians of a 'charismatic
spirituality' who are interested in discernment. It brings together,
in revised form, several articles and talks by Fr. Fio Mascarenhas,
sj. The author's relections on "the dispositions of a discerning
disciple" are in the context of the Catholic Charismatic
Renewal, thus assuming the "Life in the Spirit" Seminars
have already been completed by the reader, resulting in new or
deeper personal experiences of the grace of Jesus the Lord, the
love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit Gives Life is a booklet stemming from the stories of many people whose lives
have been radically changed, convinced that this is the work of
the "life-giving Spirit". A commission of theologians
endeavored to reflect on this new life and describe its basic
charicteristics, with the knowledge that this is part of a process
of clarification occuring on many levels: in individuals, groups
and communities; in conferences, Church committees and universities.

This book came into being when
Fr. Fio Mascarenhas, S.J., at that time Chairman of the International
Catholic Charismatic Renewal Office (ICCRO) in Rome, asked the
author, Alan Schreck, to write a series of simple lessons on the
history of the Catholic Church as a follow-up to the "Life
in the Spirit" seminars, especially for use in Third Word
countries. The original manuscript of this text was divided into
eight sessions to be presented by a leader to a group of people,
using a format much like the "Life in the Spirit" seminar.
Servant Publications has arranged with the ICCRO to publish the
English edition of this manuscript as a book rather than as a
teaching manual.
